STATEMENT OF THE WOMEN OF THE CARIBBEAN COAST OF NICARAGUA IN COMMEMORATION MARCH 8th, INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY


We women of the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua, Miskitus, Creole, Garifuna, Ebony, Mayangnas, Crossbred, members of ethnic women’s movement of the Caribbean coast, Caribbean Voices, with the joy that brings us together to celebrate our day, this March 8th

 
WE EXPRESS

1. The Caribbean coast is almost half the country, with a great economic potential, but it is the region with the highest rate of extreme poverty in Nicaragua, maternal mortality and teenage pregnancy, and is among the regions with higher rates domestic violence in the country.

2. Caribbean women´s are pillars in the construction of socio-economic development in our families and communities.

3. Caribbean women´s are consolidating our organizations and movements for: 

-Visible the situation of women and promote the boost of public policies needed to full development and equal condition for Caribbean women.-

– Consolidate the leadership of women and youth in the Caribbean, promoting awareness of their rights.-

– Building concerted agendas from the perspective of women and influence decision makers on our political and economic agenda.-

– Promote reforms to the law of autonomy to create mechanisms to ensure women’s participation in all political, social and economic development.

– To influence local and national governments to the sexual and reproductive rights of women are recognized in the set of laws, policies and plans…

ON DEMAND THIS MARCH 8

1. The promotion of public policies in favor of the needs of women from the municipalities, regional governments and central government.

2. The practical implementation of the Decent Treatment Act passed by the National Assembly, creating the necessary mechanisms with the participation of women of different ethnic groups of the Nicaraguan Caribbean Coast in all areas and levels of the life of our autonomous regions.

3. We welcome the adoption of the law against violence against women and demand their early implementation.

4. As to improve the quality of services, mainly health to women, especially in terms of their sexual and reproductive health.

5. To ensure the political participation of women and incorporating the needs of women in the plans and programs of government at all levels.

For a Nicaragua free from violence, free of racism, sexism,homophobia and free from all forms of discrimination, we will continue our struggle.
